These pieces were created by allowing compositions to emerge from the process of layering, sanding and adding shapes, color and marks. Turning the paintings around and around, I wait until something emerges…a bit of a story or memory to build upon. Although there are usually some recognizable shapes, I like to keep the work vague so the viewer can create the rest of the story for themselves. My hope is that the paintings are visually cohesive enough that they initially satisfy the audience and invite them to keep searching the work with a curious eye.
